the Minority Report moment
Is it finally here? Is it? Maybe just around the corner? Thanks to jwesterman for bringing this latest piece of breathtaking Japanese technology to my attention. Here’s a quick video demo.
publishing and the internet
I’m pleased to see that, while I’ve been hard at work flanneuring around the Online Marketing Show (more of which later), the Internet seems to have become the hot topic of the week for publishers, with not one but two events at University College London. So here’s a last-minute heads-up to anyone in the London [...]
digital content, physical book
This week has seen the first O’Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing Conference in San Jose, California, with much coverage in the blogosphere, including on Print is Dead.
Wednesday’s keynote speaker at TOC, Manolis Kelaidis, presented an intriguing mash-up of the physical and digital worlds. He received a standing ovation as he described his project to [...]
a good idea and a camera
Far be it for me to give a shout-out to a large American corporation. But I am going to mention Coca Cola. Actually, they had nothing to do with this. It was Eepybird who created a series of ‘experiments’ with Diet Coke and Mentos. They recently won the first Webby Award for viral video as [...]
the dark side of social media
Yes, much as I’m hooked on Facebook, blogging and the like, social media does have a dark side. I went to a discussion on this topic last night, organized by Chinwag. Issues discussed included identity theft, bullying, spam, political bloggers being baited into presenting extreme views, brands throwing their weight around, death threats, stalking, paedophilia [...]
do you have carving anxiety?
The latest publisher to get involved with social media is Simon & Schuster who, yesterday, launched their YouTube channel.
They also launched a blog at www.bookvideos.tv. This is essentially composed of one blog posting per title, with a video, book jacket, blurb, ordering link and social media optimization links (e.g. ’share on Facebook’). That’s basically all [...]
Second Life gets a new voice
I mused in a previous posting that Second Life would get more interesting once the environment became more realistic, and when you could actually speak to people, using your voice, rather than typing. Well, nearly four years after the metaverse launched, voice chat is finally here!
I first heard about this at the Blogs and Social [...]
is this thing on?
I attended another conference today, in Los Angeles. Fortunately, it was a virtual conference hosted by MarketingProfs, so I could attend the sessions from the comfort of my office in the UK. The conference ran in New York time, and was attended by people from all over the world in a virtual conference environment. While [...]
nu meeja v. page-sniffers
Apologies to Internet Explorer viewers for the recent break in transmission. Embedded videos disappeared for a while there, so far as IE browsers were concerned (you know you should get Firefox for a better browsing experience, don’t you?).
The glitch in the Matrix has now been fixed, so, to celebrate the return of the viral video, [...]
growing market for podcasting
According to new research from The Diffusion Group in the USA, 11% of adult broadband users listen to podcasts at least once per month. They predict that by 2012 this number will more than double to 24% of broadband users.
