Is it finally here? Is it? Maybe just around the corner? Thanks to jwesterman for bringing this latest piece of breathtaking Japanese technology to my attention. Here’s a quick video demo.
Sony is billing this as the world’s first flexible, full-color OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display built on organic thin-film transistor (TFT) technology. The 2.5-inch prototype display supports 16.8 million colors at a 120 x 160 pixel resolution, is 0.3 mm thick and weighs 1.5 grams.
I have to say I find this a lot more exciting than e-book readers. Especially the clunky e-readers currently on the market, which just look retro before their time. But which magazine or newspaper will be first with the Minority Report style wireless-subscribed ever-changing full-colour flexible electronic paper? For it will, I am sure, be a magazine rather than a book that gets there first.
