Mentors wanted for Society of Young Publishers

Mentor, UK

Location: UK
Role: Mentor

Starting Date: From late June 2010

Mentors required: Society of Young Publishers

The Society of Young Publishers is establishing a 6 month Mentoring Scheme to begin in late June 2010. We are currently recruiting individuals who have considerable experience, knowledge and expertise within their sector of the industry to join our pool of mentors. Please see the mentoring blog for further information: http://syp-mentoring-scheme.blogspot.com/

Mentors are being invited from editorial, sales, production, marketing and publicity (children’s, trade and academic). If you would be willing to be added to our pool of publishers, who would support the scheme if a suitable student (mentee) applies, please contact Jason Mitchell at sypmentoring@googlemail.com.

About the SYP scheme

The scheme will essentially be a two way process centred on objective and confidential career advice. Mentors will help a ’student’ (mentee) to achieve a goal that is important to them. SYP members using the scheme will take responsibility for their own learning and development, and it will be intended as a source of guidance and support through an informal learning process.

The scheme will be initially limited to 20 places. SYP applicants will be selected and matched with an appropriate mentor. Beginning in June, it will run for a minimum period of 6 months, until the end of the year. During this time, the mentor and student will meet 3 times for a minimum of 2 hours on each occasion. We are ideally looking for mentors with a minimum of 5 years experience in the Publishing industry, management-level, and willing to mentor via phone, email or face to face (as convenient to both parties). The mentoring process will be confidential and career-focussed. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
